Detox Teas

"Drinking detox teas are supposed to help increase general health and the sense of well being by helping to remove toxins from your body."

My mother introduced me to "detox teas". Did I believe they would help....no not at all! Just another marketing fad. However, I do believe that part of the cause of eczema is from the body's lack of ability to effectively and efficiently remove toxins. Have always toyed with the idea of "colon cleansing" but truthfully it's an expense that seems un-natural to do.

Anyway personally have found "detox teas" appear to have a calming effect. Perhaps this might be psychosomatic but if it helps - why not. So now I have a stash of detox teas in my cupboard that are drunk when am feeling tired itchy/menstrual itchy.

Though have noted on the box that if you are pregnant - you shouldn't drink some of the herbs in the detox bag's concoction.

Hey Kelly - hope your presentation went ok and you remembered that they only really cared about the information you were delivering and not what you looked like :-)

I've been hearing a lot about this new body wash treatment for Eczema called CLn. A friend forwarded me a video of it with a doctor talking about how well it works and I'm curious to try it. Here's the video: http://youtu.be/sIY2HqidSzE Do you have any experience with it or know anyone who's tried it? I'll try anything at this point and really like that I don't have to get a prescription for it. Thanks!

Hi Annemarie. I generally only clean with water. Sometimes in winter, I have used Balneum plus which I've found has helped to moisturise my skin. But my regime now a days is to try to drink at least 1-2 litres of water a day + go to bed early. Skin feels better :-)

Hello, I have suffered from eczema since I was young. Usually it was only in the elbows or back of the knees, but in my late 20's it became really bad. It was over 90% of my body, my skin sloughing off, constantly scratching and was driving me to hell. I went to various doctors who claimed they were dermatologists only to be prescribed steroids that only treated the symptoms. Once I stopped using it, the eczema would flare up with a vengeance. It was frustrating, depressing and I was losing hope.
One day my family kept pushing me to once again try the doctors. My family doctor recommended me to a dermatologist who did a biopsy. He determined that I was suitable for UV therapy.
Basically what it is is a huge tube of lights that cover you with UVA and UVB light waves in small doses that increase every time you go. It took about half a year but it gradually became better, and as you can imagine, I gradually became tanned as well. (people were perplexed as to why I had a tan in the winter)
I cannot say for sure that UV therapy works for everyone, but I would just like to say that you should not give up hope. I am completely better now, moved on, gotten married.
Even though I know that my eczema may flare up again, at least I know that I have been able to fight it off once, and I will be able to fight it off again.
Thanks

I just have to say I am very glad to have found your blog! I feel I live a parallel life, right down to craving Arctic environs which I study so I can say from experience the difference is amazing... all eczema disappears when at the poles, but perhaps it's more than just the cold. No allergens, etc. We have tried everything and really just have to keep to a routine that works you and I. There will be set-backs and successes! Keep at it and I will too. If it gets really bad, sometimes I use the "sauna method". Warm shower, lotion up, put on damp cotton pajamas, don a "sauna suit" if you have one (they breath so you'll get everything wet), wrap up well, as you will soon get cold and go to bed! Do this religiously for a week at bedtime and you will heal your skin quickly! The trick is, as you know, keeping it healed! Good luck and I am with you 100%!

Thanks for the article. Yeah, herbal teas helps. But, have you tried warm lemon water? I think drinking warm lemon water in the morning empty stomach is great. It gently kick start the metabolism, detoxify the liver, makes our body alkaline and promotes body detox. it is one the cheapest and easy to make natural drink every morning.
